Executive Director Peter Tinsley discusses police oversight with regard to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Bill that may become law in South Africa by the end of 2011 in an interview with Chris Botha, Institute for Security Studies publication SA Crime Quarterly No 37. If adopted, the new law will significantly change the functions of the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), which is currently South Africa’s primary independent agency responsible for investigating. Chris Botha recently met up with Peter Tinsley, recognized as an expert on the rule of law and the oversight of security forces, recently at a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conference on policing reform in Dhaka, Bangladesh where Peter discussed Canadian developments on issues of police oversight.
